Nigeria ranks 101
Forbes released a of the "Worlds Most competitive Countries", Nigeria, or Nija as we like to call our dear country came in at 101. Hey, 55th for our macroeconomics, hm I wonder what that means, I did not read the methodology though, I bet the researchers attempted a control for the size of the economy, but all economist know this tends to be an excercise in futility. To put this in perspective, South Africa (45), Jamaica (60). Grrr.. that hurts a bit though, I did not realize SA was that far ahead of us.
Like all macroeconomic research papers however all inferences should be taken with a pinch of salt, cross-country comparisons are unordered and its also next to impossible to separate cause, effects and feedback in this types of framework, therefore conclusions are inherently useless/ pointless. How do I know this, I spent a fat chunk of my young adult life trying to make sense of these figures. Grrrr...
105 on the ranking for infrastructure, hmmm that says a lot, NEPA(whats it called now), NPF etc. are killing Nigeria.
Hey at best this paper 'sheds a little light' on a twisted system, but trust the journalists to run with whatever they get.
After all said and done, no matter how we slice and dice it, Nija is slacking up.. Kapish.
