Head Count...the debate continues

My point is this; if Nigerian bloggers can not come to a consensus about, the male- female ration in Nigeria; Nilla feels there are more males, Anthony feels the reverse is the case while David is sure there are more females. Isn't it inherently difficult to talk about the demography of a country just by relying on our day to day perceptions. Since the NPC carried out the exercise and they have come up with their result, I believe we should all hush, and accept this result. What will we base any disagreement on? This point extends to the Lagos vs. Kano thing too. I hope we all realize that its Lagos 'State' and Kano 'State' in question and not the city. Hello absolute population figures are in question here not population density. Things are not always what they seem.

Like Zee, I'm not really sure what's happening... But I think it's interesting that there are supposedly more males than females in Nigeria...(I mean with all those men that have more than 1 wife, plus all the mistresses on the side). I'm not really sure what to make of the results.

If there's anything ludicrous I've heard this new year, it's the declaration by National Population Commission that there are more people in Kano than in Lagos. Haba! As David said, it seems as if they counted cows & goats join human beings. What made me finally deduce that everything is a shamble and a pack of lies is the statement that 'there are more men in Nigerian than women'. What do these people take us for, bonfools? Has any of them come to the streets of Lagos to see how girls flock every nook & cranny? Go to a party & you'll discover that. The rate at which girls dey fight overs guys sef is a serious statistics. That's the greatest joke I've heard this year. No way! Chicken no dey cry for night.

How did we end up with more males than females?

Anonymoussaid...

What are you talking about? Lagos is more populous than Kano, State or city. You better take your time my friend. It is all about politics.

Anonymoussaid...

what has politics got to do with population count?(see comment from anonymous above). Now I understand that funds are disbursed to different areas based on the number of people there, but why not be honest about it. Why play politics if the end is not to chop money? Person A states his state has more people than person B thereby robbing them of the extra funds they would have received. The fact still remains that the powers' that be will still chop money, whether you have more people or less in an area.

Nillasaid...

I don't think you got me right..
I actually feel there are supposed to be more females than males.
But the #s are supposedly showing more males....hence my analysis!

Omodudusaid...

There goes my argument, my bad, I apologize Nilla. All bloggers seem to have agreed shey.
Could be an evidence of our male dorminated society.

Omodudusaid...

Wooh! I was referring to the Male-Female ratio. Women Liberators in the izzo. Just kidding, thanks for pointing my error out.

i am waiting patiently for chippla and chxta to write about this one. both are freaks, but are extremely logical freaks. david is not at all. too sentimental. sad really.

Bososaid...

I'd like to hear Chxta's view on this. In my opnion, there is no way you can tell me Kano is more populous than Lagos.

Akinsaid...

You all seem to be missing the point here.

During the census, people were given a week's holiday, but there was no embargo on movement.

Do you think people would have stayed put in Lagos when they could go their their villages and swell the numbers from the usual 150 to over 3,000?

The effect would be seen in the elections when the results would come down to the little village deciding the critical seats like the governorships.

I really can see why Kano would end up having more people than Lagos, there is more mobility in Lagos than for those who reside in Kano who most probably stayed put.

Then there is that little issue that people who live on my mother's street in a Lagos suburb had to pay to be counted. I was speechless when she told me.

Nillasaid...

@ Akin
Paying to be counted...that's a big issue.

DiAmOnD hawksaid...

abeggggggggggggggyyyyy. i've beeen to kano...and aint no way...they have more ppl than lagos

DiAmOnD hawksaid...

and come on...more males than males? i mean even when we get into the biology of it...there's a 75% chance of having a girl...than a boy...so it's more likely that we'd have more girls...thats what i think for right now sha

davidsaid...

there are at least 4 women to 1 man in Nigeria if not more. Makama and his group of magicians should come up with better ways of manipulating figures!

Chxtasaid...

How can there be a ratio of 4 women to 1 man?

I will write about this later in the day. Let me finish up with all the other blogs...
