AIDS
An experimental sex lubricant designed by Australian researchers could help block both HIV and genital herpes, a study suggests.Tests on lab animals have shown that the microbicide gel, called Viva Gel, inactivates the HIV virus and another responsible for genital herpes. It would be most useful in sub-Saharan African nations where the HIV epidemic is mostly seen among heterosexuals. Safety trials of the gel are now underway in humans. The first results, presented at the congress, show it is safe and well tolerated in healthy men, uncircumcised or not. Source: D
Is this be the first sign of the end of the AIDS scourge? Africa needs a solution really bad. The cost of managing AIDS patients is astronomical. This will remain so for a long time to come since the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't cut the continent some slack. Will a cheap prevention and yet satisfying method put and end to the scourge that has hit Africa so badly? I have my fingers crossed. Since this is a gel wouldn't this have a rather iffy probability of living the protection undone. Could poor application lead to even more infections due to the false confidence provided by a drug of this nature? Lastly, I am curious about how this type of drug is tested in humans. Are there humans who will be willing to take this type of risk for a fee? Just been nosey me.
Have a great work week.

Hmmm
Is it another Libya? The Bulgarian and French Nurses just got home yesterday (24/07/07) after being released by Libya.
They were meant to serve life sentences after being convicted of infecting Libyan Children with HIV virus.
Sarkozy by the way is on his way to Libya today (25/07/07) to wrap up the deal that saw Ghadaffi release those people yesterday.
At home in Nigeria, the Pfizer and Kano/Nigeria government case is still on.
My issue is mentioning sub-Saharan Africa. It has only been tested on lab animals thus far. When they have tested on humans up in Austria and around Europe; then we will welcome it with open hands in sub Saharan Africa.
That na my Take.
Lol @Which Way Nigeria. So true. Why must "Sub-Saharan Africa" have to be the guinea-pig zone? Lol...wahala de sha. There sure is need to rein in the AIDS scourge in Africa. They probably expect us to keep our raging hormones in check...
experimental sex gini?
Are you kidding me? Ooh pls, with my pleasure could they try it on "heretosexual" men in Sydney, London, New York first before heading to Africa.... WTF???
And our governments will be threatened with aid/grants and they give in to their pressure, and work with the innocent uneducated ppl....
