My Patriotism Was Dealt A Huge Blow...

I have spent a couple of days thinking about this, I feel like this one will not leave me until I put up an entry about this issue. I would start by saying that I have made a conscious efforts to speak good about Nigeria. I felt that would balance the assault on home country by the foreign media. However right now, I am beginning to think the foreign media houses may just be right. I ask for your forgiveness in advance if this entry stoops to the level of an anti Nigeria rant. This brother is deeply frustrated with the political class in Nigeria.
Unfortunately, I am not allowed to let out the details of the particular event, otherwise the college funds for my unborn children may be threatened. Oh yes Omodudu is a strategic activist. Back to the gist, a very fine project of mine was shot down by Nigeria politicking, for no reason other than, " this isn't how we do it round here'. It feels like one has to loose all of his self esteem in order get anything done in home country. Incentives and disincentives do not work in our country my brothers and sisters, and the biggest mistake you can make when dealing with this folks is to assume there is an ounce of "doing something for the public" in their heart. The higher you go the more glaring this attitude is. This is the second time this is happening and this brother is pissed off.
Why we fold our hands and watch the robbery going beats me. My fear has always been that my people may squander the goodwill, presently being, extended to us by the rest of the world. Though my fear has not been confirmed 100%. I am interested in seeing how the mother ship will be turned around because in my opinion it is close to running aground.
I am tired of answering the question, verbally or psychologically " What is in it for me? It better be big" At this juncture I hands off Naija stuff and focus on more rewarding enterprises. I feel like the prodigal son right now. Let sell Nigeria so that I can get my own share and walk away never to look back anymore. Off to the Embassy of Madagascar, this brother is seeking citizenship.

Your patriotism was dealt a big blow? Be prepared for more heavy blows in the future, Dudu. Nigeria is a tough terrain full of difficult and lousy people who unfortunately call the shot in the land.

All you can do is learn to absorb the blows Naija throws at you, dodge those you can, but keep moving. You may need to re-evaluate your plans and overhaul your strategy. Let your passion drive you bro.

Check this statement (lifted from African Executive). It gives you a sense of the magnitude of rot and calamity that has happened in Nigeria over the years.

"In 1865, Washington DC (USA) had no electricity. But in 1894, .Ijora Power Station - Lagos, one of the first in West Africa, was established. In more than 100 years, that electricity made its presence in Nigeria. The country's leadership cannot boast of 20 percent electricity to its more than 130 million folks."

This are the kinds of people you are dealing with!

@Aloft hmmm I will probably get over this in a few weeks right now...I am so so sore. Too much work went into this bit. And to think the bulk of the work went into the connection aspect Grrrr... Only for the connection to be the one shooting down the project...Last time it was the O%# himself shooting it down...this one dint even get any air play like that.....It is hard when merit is not considered ..then what could be considered hard work and genius. We are not going anywhere soon we better get used to it...I am really feeling like Chez Gueverra right now...

Anonymoussaid...

you will get over it.

'Dudu: Prepare to be disappointed again, and again, and again. By everyone, fromthe gateman to the elected official. That, unfortunatly, is the plight of every single Nigerian, at home or abroad, who has nothing but good intentions and plans for the Republic.

I implore you to take a time out, but come back with the goal to improve the country, however you can. Seek out those who share your enthusiam. In time, you will achieve satisfaction. It could take forever, but it will come.

Besides, something tells me Madagascar is not trying to take on any disgruntled Nigerians. Especially not one called 'Omodudu', lol!

Kafosaid...

OUCH
this one is hot ooooo

sell Naija

hmmmm

Bro. Teesaid...

Dudu, take heart. Nigeria shall shine again. It will definitely take time, but at the end, TRUTH will prevail. The pride of our motherland shall be restored. I believe in what God can do. Shalom

Omodudu, you need to be realistic and assume that you will meet the worst when trying to work in Naija and then things like this won't shock you. Once you accept that possibility and make contingency plans then you're better prepared

i'm not surprised! Morality is an oxymoron in our society, unfortunately.

Once in a while, amidst all the quagmire, there's some streak of good light. Don't give up, now! No you don't!

Think what you can do for your country .....
Given time , the patriotism should return

Omodudusaid...

@Babawilly... what if my country refuses to be helped..what is a brother to do. Nigeria isn't even in need of a rocket scientist type of leader... weith a secondary school certificate a difference can be made if only the interest of the common man is considered. Okay maybe just once in a while.

Imagine a collective effort by all of us is what can make the difference someday. The good thing is that if our leaders refuse to change, it will only be a matter of time (a short time at that)before change will be inevitable. Imagine what the Abacha regime would have been if we had the same technology we have now (Internet, blogs, GSM,etc.) Lets keep sharing and educating ourselves. God is only grooming us to make that change when it is time.
