Outsourcing: Tutoring
As discussed earlier on this blog. The outsourcing of services is getting bigger by the day. I found this case really appealing. This case uses Voice over IP phone. I am pretty sure high school maths can be taught over Skype, IM and a free online collaboration (screen sharing) application. Given how much parents in America are willing to pay for tutorials coupled with the shortage of qualified tutors. Maybe working in the financial services and oil companies will soon become a second choice for African college graduates. This is just one case many other abound. Most afternoons, he is tutored remotely by an instructor speaking to him on a voice-over-Internet headset while he sits at his personal computer going over lessons on the screen. This issue is a hot topic, oh. I have heard that American parents are paying major kudi to have Indians tutor their children over the internet.
This could be a lucrative endeavor for various African economies. They would have to provide internet access though. Intel is advocating wireless technology in Africa in a means to close the technology gap. We shall see...
Yea, I think it would be a great idea, but as you already pointed out, we need reliabe, fast internet connection.... In fact, it is not only in teaching: telemedicine is getting to be a major area of medicine these days. I think it is one of the things discussed at the launch of Connect Africa in Kigali in the past few days. Actually, this reminds me that I should go and read about the outcomes of the meeting....

In response to your quick question,the multilink service my parent use at home is nothing to write home about,they still claim it's the best of all the internet service provider,I guess it's ok if you don't mind waiting 10-15mins for yahoo login page to load.

Shey they just promised Africa 50 billion dollars at the Rwanda meetings. We hope we do not have grand kids before that one takes off. The speed of decision making in Africa scare me o. Look at NEPAD.
