RE: AFRICOM...
How do we approach the decision makers of Liberia and Sao Tome and encourage them to say "NO!" to Africom? Question by . (Add your comments )
A thought provoking comment from the AfricanLoft. Add your voice to the debate. If Liberia and Sao Tome are "in play," perhaps it would be wise to do more than sit idly by and "watch to see the outcome."
As African people (whether from the Continent or the Diaspora) we should be pro-active in working to avoid the calamity that will come with the presence of Africom in Africa.
We should do all that we can to help Liberia and Sao Tome steer clear of any enticements to swallow the poison pill of a U.S. military presence. It is the same moral imperative as we would have to steer a family member clear of a dangerous drug.

you would have to somehow convince Sao Tome and Liberia that in the future they'll be safe from coups and civil wars and foreign invasions and that someone else (the AU?) would do the job.
but who's gonna do that ?
(and yes, Germany and Japan probably excaped a great deal of trouble because of US presence)
How much trouble did Germany and Japan escape because of the U. S. presence? This is like making a what if statement.
Are you in support of Africom?
errr.. Germany and Japan excaped russian (or chinese) invasions, they also could have had fascist coups..
i'm not in support of africom.
but i'm being realistic. Liberia and Sao Tome have their motivation. Do you think all the patriotic anti-bush irak/vietnam chatter really means something when one's problem is the avoiding civil wars or coups or foreign invasions ?
Nice POV @random Afrcian...have you added your voice to the debate at the Africanloft?
nah i haven't. mostly because i don't really think there's much urgency or importance in such a debate but also because africanloft has that javascript video thing that annoys the hell out of me and my dear laptop, lol.
