Iwas fooled for a second. I thought the presidential elections was going to be annulled. The election tribunal insists, "...the tribunal ruled that substantial non compliance with the 2006 Elctoral Act as alleged by the petitioners did not give enough grounds for the nullification of the entire results of the poll." Let us rally round MYA for now and get this reconstruction process going. Have a blessed work week.
Today (October 18th), I join the , in the efforts to persuade the UN member countries to back the proposal to set aside October 18th as the Global Democracy day. The work group intends to get the United Nations to declare October 18th the official international day for democracy. Please join the crew as we once again take a stand for democracy and good governance in Nigeria. I believe that an increased awareness about the issues relating to governance will serve to nurture democracy in Nigeria. Let us remember that democracy is a hands-on enterprise and could be a monster if left to run wild. Take a stand for democracy today.
The messages entered in the Speak Up Nigeria campaign are here! Thank you to everyone who participated. Although only 5 messages are now available for voting, we here at Nigerian Lighthouse want to congratulate all the participants for taking the time to get creative and write a message to Nigeria. In all honesty, it was difficult for the team to decide on which messages should be presented to the greater public for voting. The messages entered for the campaign vary greatly. Some are lengthy, others are brief. Despite these differences, there is a common theme - a desire for a better, more inclusive country that will make every Nigerian proud of their citizenship. So, take a little time to leave a comment indicating your vote for whichever entry you prefer! Your vote counts here - so exercise it! HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NIGERIA!
