Omodudu is 2...
Bring out the pom-poms, today is the second year anniversary of this journal. 374 blog posts and 98 draft posts later, this journal is still waxing strong. Though I signed up for blogger in Feb. '05, it took me 8 months to put up my first blog post. I remember that day vividly, I had just read a BBC article about African child soldiers, I was livid and I needed to talk with someone so bad. Too bad, my grad school crew did not think Africa was worth their time. I turned to blogger, put up a post and actually felt good about it. I was hooked. I got one spam comment on that post and I was elated that someone actually read it (do not look at me like that, I did not know any better). I never deleted that spam comment, I left it there as a stamp of my stupidity.
How did the Omodudu name come about? In 2005, I carried the troubles of every black man on my shoulder. I was quick to defend the back race, quick to pull a punch for Africa. I was formerly known as black bandanna Quay, uhn so so too long. I had to come up with something African, something dark. It is no coincidence that Rodney 'Darkchild' Jenkins was one of the top music producer in 2005. I could so associate myself with the backward beat thing. (Where is he now?)
For those yet to connect all of this, Omodudu literally means Black Child, but figuratively used to refer to the black race with a ting of derogatory undertone.
Reproduced below is my first post.
THE FEATURED PICTURES OF AFRICAN CHILDREN SOLDIERS IN THEIR PHOTO-EDITORIALS TODAY, I COULD NOT HELP BUT NOTICE SOME OF THE JARRING PICTURES. ITS NICE TO BRING ALL THE ATROCITIES COMMITTED BY AFRICAN LEADERS INTO THE WORLDVIEW, BUT WHEN WILL WE GET IMAGES OF PEOPLE ON VACATION AND HAVING A NICE TIME IN AFRICA.
