If you are like me and like millions of others Hotmail (now Outlook) users, there is a very high chance of your inbox getting bombarded with lots and lots of junk and spam emails. Most of those emails are completely useless and annoying. There were times when I have even missed out on important mails just because my Hotmail inbox was completely drenched with junk and spam. Luckily, there is a way through this mess. A simple process of altering your junk mail settings won’t let heaps of junk mail from piling up in your inbox.
Altering junk mail settings:
To make things easier all you need to do is alter a few settings and set a desired level of junk mail security. That is one of the most convenient ways of blocking junk mails. You may follow the steps as given below:
- You need to visit the Hotmail.com website and login with your registered Hotmail account.
- Once you login, you will find the options link in the top right side of the screen. When you click on it, a box pops down with the more options button at the bottom part of the box. Now, click on more options to proceed further.
- You can now click on the Filters and reporting option under the junk email from more options link.
- You’ll now be able to find 2 different fields that help you filter your email and help you save from junk mails. These fields are (a)Standard: Most of the junk email is sent to the junk email folder. (b)Exclusive: Everything is sent to the junk email folder except the mails from your contacts and the safe senders list. There is also an option to show or block attachments like pictures and links.
- I would definitely prefer you to choose the exclusive option as you can receive emails into your inbox only from the contacts found in your contact list.
- You may now scroll to the Delete junk email heading. You can choose to send all the junk email to the junk folder or you can also delete the messages right away. You can always view these mails in the junk mail folder if anyone claims to have sent you a legit email.
- This is an optional step. You have the option to report junk mails. Scroll to the Report junk messages section to report any of the spam emails you wish to. You can also send spam reports on any individual junk emails at a later time.
- You can now save your changes.
That was pretty easy right? It was indeed.
Do you ever in your whole emailing experience keep receiving spam from some specific senders? There was a time when I had to install a particular app from the store and right from the time of installation my inbox had a ton of junk emails each day. Most of those emails were from specific senders and to be very frank, I was pissed at it. To counter problems like these I thought of blocking particular spamming email address or their domain. And guess what? I was the best thing I did to save my inbox from becoming a complete mess. This is what you actually need to do:
- You need to visit the Hotmail.com website and login with your registered Hotmail account.
- You will find the options section on the upper right of the screen. Click on it to move from options to more options.
- Under more options you’ll find an option titled as Preventing Junk mail. Click on Safe and Blocked senders under this section.
- Now, click on blocked senders.
- You need to enter the email address or the domain in the box labeled as Blocked email address or domain. Once you do so, you can click on the Add to list option. You are now good to go.
Please make sure that the email addresses that are blocked are not in the safe senders list or the contact list as blocking won’t really help then.
Blocking junk emails is now super cool. Things will now get a lot easier than before reducing the stress on you as well as your dearest inbox. You need not worry about missing the important emails as the above procedure will do your work of blocking most of the junk emails. With all these alterations and settings you will be immensely productive. And trust me, it will not take more than a couple of minutes to alter some of these settings. Investing a few minutes on the blocking procedures and reporting junk mails will definitely save a lot of your valuable time in the future.
