i like your views on this issue. while i wouldn't call obj a complete failure (i'm not saying that you did either) i can't look beyond how much more he could have done with the goodwill at his disposal. the man could have set himself up as a sage, but instead he bows out as yet another reason not to have military men - in any guise - at the reins of government.

i would have said that obj's biggest acheivement was providing stability, but he's undone that now in his last 2 years or so in government. all i can see is squandered potential, and a man who despite 2 bites at the cherry, could not leave a positive mark of his own making. the first time he ruled, he left the shambles that was the shagari presidency, and now, in an almost mirror image, he has left a president who will never be accepted as legitimate. what a legacy!
